International Seabed Authority: Deep sea must not become a wilderness for rare mineral mining

At a time of global competition to explore the seabed and mine high-value rare minerals, Leticia Carvalho, secretary general of the United Nations International Seabed Authority, warned that the deep sea belongs to all mankind, not any single country or enterprise.She called on all parties to work together to ensure that this huge potential resource is not exploited indiscriminately and that the deep sea is not reduced to a “wild land of disorderly mining”.
